Module 5 Static vs Dynamic

Static vs Dynamic

As I had the opportunity to reflect on this weeks topic Static vs Dynamic content I came to the concllusion that both are needed to develop a well rounded student who has the ability to compete in today's changing enviournment.   As we are all aware there is a certain degree of content that is unchanging, such as the sun will always rise from the east and set in the west. No matter what we do to try to change that knowledge, it will always be the same.  The same is true with information that we need to teach our students.  This information can be best stored and retrieved in a static enviornment, somewhere where it can be easily retrived and used when needed.

However the story does not end there, we live in a world that  Thomas Friedman describes as being flat. Through the advent of technology it is possible for the citizens of the world to communicate, conduct business and learn from one another in real time.  Therefore as an instructor, I feel that it is important that we provide our students the opportunity to explore new ways of communicating and learning from individuals that are from distant lands.  This task can be accomplished in a controlled environment through online learning institutions, ePals and other educational social media sites.

  1. Tim,

You did a great job on your concept map. I noticed through your illustration how much we have advanced to dynamic technologies.

Do you believe that education will eventually phase out static technologies?
